Iron Sent Down From the Sky
The Quran uses the phrase 'We sent down iron', a description that modern astrophysics confirms. Iron is not formed on Earth. It is produced in stellar explosions and arrived on Earth from space.
The Verse
In Surah al-Hadid (57:25), God says:
"And We sent down iron, in which there is great strength and benefits for people."
The Arabic anzalna (we sent down) is the same word used for the revelation of scripture. It implies descent from above, not natural formation on Earth.
The Astrophysics
Iron is not produced on Earth and cannot be formed through ordinary stellar processes. It is produced only in supernova explosions (the deaths of massive stars) and distributed through space. The iron present on Earth arrived via meteorites and during the formation of the solar system, originating from stellar explosions that predate the sun itself.
This is confirmed by the fact that iron on Earth has isotopic signatures consistent with supernova origin. It did not form here. It was, in the most literal sense, sent down.
An Observation Worth Noting
Surah al-Hadid is the 57th chapter of the Quran. The atomic mass of iron is 56, and its most stable isotope (iron-56) has a mass number of 56. Some researchers have noted this correspondence. It is presented here as an intriguing observation rather than a primary argument.
Common Misconceptions
"Anzalna is just a general word for creation." The word specifically implies descent from above. It is the same word used for the sending down of rain, of the Quran, and of the angels. Its use for iron is deliberate and distinct from the language used for other created things.
